Saturday (20/11), President University Major Association (PUMA) Electrical Engineering Study Program, President University (PresUniv), held a webinar on Renewable Energy in Power Systems with the theme “Renewable Energy Make Innovation, Efficient, Sustainable”. This webinar presents two speakers, namely Dr. eng. Ir. Fransisco Danang Wijaya, ST, MT, IPM., lecturer of the Electrical Engineering Study Program, Gadjah Mada University, and Prof. Dr. eng. Ir. Abraham Lomi, MSEE, SMIEEE, MIET, MIAENG, Rector of the National Institute of Technology Malang, and moderated by Mia Galina, S.T., M.T., lecturer of the Electrical Engineering Study Program, PresUniv. This webinar was opened by Drs. Antonius Suhartomo, M.Eng.Sc., Ph.D., Head of Electrical Engineering Study Program, PresUniv.
In this webinar, Danang conveyed that global warming is an important issue in the world today. “One of the triggers for global warming is the use of fossil energy for power generation, industry, and transportation,” he said. Danang continued, global warming is an issue that the world must tackle. “The prediction of melting ice in the north and south poles will result in rising sea levels. This is the impact of global warming,” he added.
Meanwhile, Abraham explained that global new and renewable energy (EBT) production increased by 2,588 GW. Abraham said, “The world’s tendency to build power plants with EBT continues to increase.” This phenomenon also occurs in Indonesia. In 2020, the installed capacity of national power plants using EBT in June 2020 will reach 71 GW or an increase of 1.3 GW compared to the end of 2019, which was 69.7 GW. “Since 2018, the construction of power plants in Indonesia has begun to focus on using EBT,” he explained.
