Komodokoe, Communications Student Campaign to Preserve Komodo

Komodo dragons, the largest lizards on earth found only in Indonesia, have long been classified as a vulnerable species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). This fact attracted the attention of Communications students at President University (PresUniv), who involved themselves in the “Komodokoe” project to take part in efforts to preserve the Komodo dragon.

Tannia Susilo, the Project Manager of Komodokoe, said “Komodo is an Indonesian treasure that must be preserved in terms of its origin and nature. Moreover, Komodo National Park, which is home to Komodo dragons, has also been declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site and has also been selected as one of the New 7 Natural Wonders.”

To support its activities, Komodokoe held a campaign through social media to provide knowledge about how to conserve Komodo dragons and their ecosystems. In addition, Komodokoe also supports the efforts of various non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and other institutions in preserving the existence of Komodo dragons in the wild through digital platforms. The highlight of this campaign is a webinar which will be held on Monday (14/12) entitled “Raising Awareness for Indonesian Generation to Save Komodo, Our National Treasure”.

The speaker at this webinar was Yunias Jackson Benu, S.S.T., Forest Ecosystem Controller from Komodo National Park, who presented the topic of Komodo Bio Ecology and Management of Komodo National Park. Another speaker, Achmad Ariefiandy, Project Manager & Researcher of the Komodo Survival Program (KSP). He explained the research and conservation efforts of Komodo dragons and other wild animals that live side by side in their habitat. This webinar was attended by more than 300 participants who were not only students, but from various ages and professions throughout Indonesia. (Komodokoe/SL)
