Increasing Environmental Awareness through Beach Clean-Up Day in Management Environment Social Project (MESPRO) 2019

Sustaining the environment couldn’t have been better done through community service. Not only one could increase the awareness toward environmental issues and the urgency to address them, but one could also get the chance to give back to the community.

On 7-8 December 2019, the students of the Management Study Program of President University organized the Management Environment Social Project (MESPRO) 2019 in Taman Nasional Kepulauan Seribu and Rumah Harapan. MESPRO is an annual event conducted by President University Major Association (PUMA) Management as a platform for students to take action upon the issues occurring in their surroundings. This year, they decided to go with the environment as the focus. Approximately sixty participants were joined in this event as volunteers.

On the first day, the students volunteered in Taman Nasional Kepulauan Seribu to plant mangrove, seagrass, and corals to minimize the impact of abrasion. They also learned the importance of sustaining the beach ecosystem for the life cycle of sea turtle as they found out more about the reciprocity that the two share.  The following day, they did a beach clean up before heading to Rumah Harapan to give donations and did a get-together activity with the orphaned kids.

The Head of Management Study Program of President University Dr. Dra. Genoveva, M.M. expressed her thoughts about this event, “Through bonding and fun activities, we showed our concern for helping others. I hope that all of the participants get the value from this event and can inspire other students to do the same thing too.” (APW)
