On Wednesday, September 28, 2024, students from President University (Presuniv) visited PT Amandina Bumi Nusantara, a leading Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) recycling company in Indonesia, located in Serang Baru, Bekasi. This visit by the 2023 cohort was part of the learning experience for the Material Flow Analysis class, which is taught by Yosef Barita Sar Manik, ST, M.Sc., Ph.D., the Head of the Environmental Engineering Study Program. The students were warmly welcomed by Riena Chesanova, Human Resource General Affairs at Amandina.
During the visit, students had the opportunity to observe the plastic recycling process firsthand at Amandina. “Our company processes single-use plastic bottles into plastic pellets. These pellets are then reprocessed into plastic bottles that can be reused,” explained Riena. She further elaborated that the recycling process helps reduce plastic bottle waste, as the produced pellets can be used to create new bottle packaging.
The students were enthusiastic throughout the visit. Fadyah Rahmanina Susanti Patingari expressed how meaningful the experience was for her. “It helped me understand how the PET plastic recycling process works, allowing bottles to be reused. This process helps reduce environmental impact and supports a sustainable future,” she said. The students also asked many questions during the visit, making it a valuable learning experience.
