The President University Debating Team Wins Runner-Up Position in 2020 Indonesia SDGs Debate Competition (ISDC)

The President University Debating Team has just won second place in the 2020 Indonesia SDGs Debate Competition (ISDC). This national-level debate competition is held by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Indonesia and the Ministry of National Development Planning of the Republic of Indonesia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Tanoto Foundation, which aims to invite Indonesia’s young generation to understand the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the context of local, national, and global issues. This series of competitions were held from 8 to 28 October 2020, with the theme “Bright YOUth, Better Planet”.

This team consisted of Reynaldo Arya (Law 2018), Rendy Utomo (International Relations 2015), and Ni Putu Andini (International Relations 2017) and succeeded to beat the positions of more than 100 teams. They felt proud of the achievement in this competition since their journey from the regional and national selection stages was not easy at all before finally wiping out the entire contestants, and got into the grand final stage with the University of Padjajaran.

“Our target to win the second place in this national competition is a part of the President University debate team’s strategy to prepare our team for the international debate competition, 2020 World University Debating Championship in 2021. We want to bring home our maximum results at that event,” said Reynaldo. (GN/SL)
